GlobeMed at Indiana University strives to empower students by working with communities, both locally and internationally, to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world.
GlobeMed at IU has two major components: working hands on with the Trailblazer Foundation in Siem Reap, Cambodia and encouraging IU students to educate peers about global health disparities.
GlobeMed at IU partners with the Trailblazer Foundation to promote sustainable solutions to the lives of rural villagers in the Siem Reap province of Cambodia. In order to increase food security for families in the region, we are currently working with local farmers by teaching new horticultural and agricultural techniques. By implementing these new practices, farmers will be able to raise more food for their families as well as sell excess produce to local restaurants and hotels. This, in turn, will provide a sustainable system within the communities of Siem Reap that we envision will last beyond our intervention.
